![]() "... his supple technique allowed Described as "…a natural and enormous talent." by the Chicago Sun-Times, pianist Marlon Daniel has performed in Europe and North America. He has appeared in several international music festivals including The Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival in the United States; the 11th International Music Festival in Kroměříž, Czech Republic; Santander International Music Festival in Spain; Fontainebleau and the prestigious Les Musicales de Pontivy Festivals in France. He has received numerous prizes and awards including a Rose Hanus Fellowship, the Mabel Henderson Memorial Grant for Foreign Experience, a M.C. Lawton Civic and Cultural Club Scholarship, a Capitol Region Foundation Grant for Arts in Education and an Honorary Key to the City of Chicago for Outstanding Musical Achievement bestowed by the late Mayor Harold Washington. He began to play the piano at an early age but did not receive formal training until age thirteen. His first teacher was Kathryn Gladden, a former pupil of Moriz Rosenthal (a student of Franz Liszt). Later he studied with Salavatore Spina in The Young Artist Program of the American Conservatory of Music and continued his education at Manhattan School of Music, studying piano with Arkady Aronov and Alexander Edelmann, of whom he was the last student. His musical development has been shaped by the influence of Dmitri Bashkirov, Gaby Casadesus, Richard Goode, Jerome Rose, Miyoko Nakaya Lotto and currently Nicolai Lomov who acts as his mentor. A noted chamber musician and conductor, he is currently the Music Director of Ensemble du Monde and Associate Conductor of the Praga Sinfonietta. Upcoming performances include concerts in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway and the United Kingdom |
